Technology / Manufacturing Process

Tyre retreading is done using MRF’s new technology called “Procured Retreading Process” which is commonly known as “Cold Process Retreading”. Tyre retreading by precured method gives 50% more mileage than the tyre retreaded by conventional process. In MRF the process is called MRF PRETREADS and is the most advanced procured retreading system in India.

In the MRF PRETREADS, the tread rubber is procured from MRF’s factory in a carefully controlled environment thereby ensuring international quality standards. The MRF PRETREADS has emerged as the mileage leader for precured retreading and also has specialization required for retreading tyres of truck, bus, and LCV and passenger vehicle.

The tyre coming from the customers is cleaned dully. Dust and mud are removed. The casing is inspected for cuts, ply section, condition of beads etc., and based on the condition of the casing; the tyre is selected or rejected. Under inflated conditions the selected tyre's crown area is buffed to the required texture and contour. This is for better bonding of procured rubber to the casing.

The buffed casing is mounted on the tread building machine. Cushion compound is applied on the buffed tread area over which the precured tread rubber is applied and stickled using rollers. The joint portion of the precured tread rubber is stapled to avoid possible opening during curing of the tyre.

The built-up tyre is covered by a rubber envelope and placed in the electric chamber for curing at specific temperature (126 degree C), which cures the cushion compound to complete the bonding of the tread rubber on the tyre casing. The process ensures best quality retreaded tyres to give 80% of new tyre mileage.
